iOS 6: should I upgrade?

Is upgrade your iPhone or iPad to iOS 6, or new operating system is not yet mature enough?
Small step or a big step?

"Is it worth upgrading to the new version of iOS?" Is a question asked every time Apple decides to upgrade its operating system for mobile devices. It's a question of people having learned from experience - those who competed with the upgrade of Windows XP to Vista, latest version of PlayStation 3 and discovered that what she did was delete the Linux access, update, repeatedly devices and found they work now as well.
In the case of iOS itself, remember them how upgrades with problems. No problems stemming from the Knesset and other such innovations, but simply bugs. Some people experiencing battery problems with iOS updated to 5, for example. But ultimately, the answer to the question of the update was always "yes" - Apple has never reinvented its operating system, any changes built another floor in the building that most foundations are more than 2007, the first version of the system.

Not a lot has changed since the first generation

This is also the blessing and the curse of Apple. On one hand, Apple had developed operating system made in terms of user interface, character quality in this industry. Just last year we see interfaces approaching her and start to get around it in terms of convenience. So some would say that right now, at least, there is no reason for Apple to make far-reaching. If it works, do not destroy.
However, minor innovations may bring stagnation. After five years, Cshmsbib developed ecosystem that includes Windows Phone incredibly convenient and comfortable Android 4 - relative, Apple needs to deliver value loyalty of its users. Design of Nokia devices, you remember, was also excellent in the N96 and N97 shocking. This software is disappointed.

So what happens in iOS 6? Small step or a big step?

The answer lies somewhere in the middle, actually. The new operating system barely touches the basic interface of iOS, all changes made in this area are cosmetic, like a streak of Top (this with the clock) semi - transparent color is adjusted to what appears on the screen and effect ornate but cute when you pull the list of emails below to update the box.
But Apple talking about 200 innovations that come with iOS6. And there is no reason not to believe them. These changes there, they are just hiding, at least the first few minutes of use, with the exception of one very prominent - the new mapping service, Apple has built itself, instead of relying on Google maps as in previous versions of the device. If you frequently use the built-in map service, the new service is your best reason not to upgrade to iOS 6 for now.

Goodbye, Google, Apple Maps Peace

Apple has built its maps service from scratch. She has signed partnerships with automakers maps, bought companies aim to produce more beautiful maps, and ... All this is not enough. What Google and Apple are currently no years of geographic information users traveling Android devices every road possible, photographs and Street View information about public transport in many states (not yet in Israel).
The result is a beautiful map service, most advanced devices (iPhone 4S, iPad, new, fifth-generation iPod touch) can see cities like New York and San Francisco in a three - dimensional spectacular, based on three-dimensional mapping technologies. It looks spectacular, but then you remember that this is a kind of replacement for Street View and replacement will seem as good as the original. Moreover, three-dimensional display works well in cities where Apple was working on it manually, but in cities where only the engine do the work models often look distorted and problematic. And if we are dealing with in detail - Apple can not match Google for updates and points of interest outside the United States.
Consideration to all these problems is the voice navigation system built, supported iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPad 3. And it works very well, it should be noted, with specific instructions and a quick design re-route if you miss her. This, and beauty, are the two main parameters that Apple's maps better than Google today. The company has been saying that the more people will use these maps more, they'll get better. But in the meantime, to see if Apple approves Google put its maps application iPhones through the App Store.

Minor innovations, a good experience

Other innovations in iOS6 much less extreme. And unlike maps, these changes create new capabilities and destroy existing capabilities. One of the new capabilities, for example, is a state Do Not Disturb - silent mode wise. When enabled, the device will filter all incoming calls, except the numbers you set. But what if something important happened and someone calls you from a number not recognized? You can set the situation so first call Tsonn, but if a second call from the same number, it will be connected.
Another improvement comes Siri, the virtual assistant is now available not only for the iPhone 4S but also the third-generation iPad and iPod Touch last. It has faster its response, and its most significant improvement is the ability to tell her to open applications. It works without any problem, quickly and conveniently, and can replace a manual search applications if you have a lot of applications installed.
Beyond that, this update is added to the iOS integration with Facebook. Beyond integration standard phone book, that it was likely to annoy people by adding hundreds of Facebook members to tell their phones (you can hide them, do not worry), there is now also the option to issue a Facebook right from the notification of the device, and the ability to share content with Facebook through the icon "Sharing" appears in places such as the browser and photo gallery. Yes, Google has it for years. It is not clear, by the way, why the phone book, now draws pictures from Facebook, not displaying them in places like the favorites list.
Another major improvement is the built-store interface, making clean and faster, at least on the new iPad. The iPhone is fairly dense feel. Nevertheless, this is a welcome change - new store facilitates the discovery of new content (only Israeli store applications, now).
The reason we have not mentioned so far in the operation speed and battery life is a question not changed at the transition between iOS 5 and 6. Operating system is running fast enough not to harm accustomed to experience Apple users on iPhone 4 two and a half year. Thus, the speed and the battery does not become a reason not to upgrade, but not a reason to upgrade the device.

Upgrade or not?

The biggest change in iOS 6 - maps, is also the most problematic, as of now at least. He brings us the most change in recommendation "do not upgrade", but this recommendation is only valid if the application Google maps is very significant for you (and it probably will not, because it is likely that if you navigate the roads of Israel, you do it with Waze). All the other changes we have seen are hard to argue with the changes that are for the better.
And here exactly is the dissonance of technology consumers who are also buffs technology. As consumers, you want to experience a comfortable and stable use, amateurs do you want the company excite you with an amazing improvement and innovative. These two do not always get along. This time, the consumer wins. But this update makes wonder again and again - how long can Apple continue without destroying some of the basics that built five years ago, and take one of those risks that have made it a company with the highest market capitalization in the world today.
